Thai Deum is a Thai Specialty Restaurant

Conflicted on how to rate this place… Is it good Thai food? 3 stars. Is it good food? Maybe 4 stars. I got the chicken and shrimp rolls to start and then the chicken pad Thai. The rolls – they come out right when they are ready, so wait for them to cool a bit. The rolls were good. The sweet chili dipping sauce was on the bland side and very one dimensional (basically just sweet). The pad Thai was just meh. First they don't use the right noodles. Second it was on the saltier side and once again, one dimensional flavor. I was missing the subtle undertone flavors that make pad Thai great. Not sure if it had chopped peanuts or bean sprouts, if it did, it was not noticeable. At first I thought maybe my Americanized palette was used to Americanized Thai food. But then I thought of my trip to Thailand – food in Thailand has even more fuller flavors. Maybe I was spoiled living in California all my life and need to adjust to Amsterdam.

Also, I asked for hot sauce and they gave me this salty liquid with peppers. It was good but wanted something more like sambal or sriracha, but my fault. I should have asked if they had other hot sauces. The hot sauce made it better, but also saltier.

Kip cashew was heerlijk. Rode curry ook erg lekker. Gegeten in het restaurant.

Great food – small price !

Na honderd-en-één Thaise restaurants te hebben uitgeprobeerd kan ik maar één ding concluderen: dit is de beste Thai in Amsterdam. Je kan er afhalen, maar er staat ook een stuk of tien tafeltjes waar je gezellig aan kan eten met een Chang biertje in de hand.

De service is goed en snel. In de keuken staan twee koks gekleed in witte kokspakken, gepassioneerd aan de lopende band de gerechten te maken. De keuken is open, ziet er brandschoon uit en als je afhaalt kan je precies zien wat ze in de gloeiend hete wok gooien. Al komt er soms een onbeduidend poedertje uit een bakje of een schep saus onder een deksel vandaan. Ik heb hier altijd goed gegeten. Aanraders zijn de Pad Thai met kip, Thom Ka Kai en de gele en rode curry. Pas wel op, als er drie pepertjes bij staan, is het zo heet dat de meeste mensen dit niet kunnen eten. Je kan altijd vragen of ze het minder pittig maken.

Best aan de prijs, maar dat mag ook wel voor deze kwaliteit en de hoeveelheden.

This has been our favorite Thai in Holland for about a decade now. The one dish you have to try – as we’ve found it to be one of the best ever – is Pad Thai: thin noodles, own recipe for fish sauce, spicy yet super flavorful, not oily but “dry” yet stir fried. When you check other reviewers you’ll see the Pad Thai mentioned often. That’s for a reason.Super nice & sweet people, great service, and very hard working. Love them!

A wonderfully authentic Thai taste for those with a love for Thai food. This is run by a Thai couple who are also the chefs. You can’t get much more authentic than this! A must try and you will be hooked Tom-Yum soup with Prawn is a big hit!

Heerlijke maaltijden voor een goeie prijs. In mijn ogen het beste thaise restaurant in Amsterdam. Voor een ieder die geen zin heeft om te koken een top uitkomst om of te halen of snel een hapje te gaan eten.

We have been eating/ ordering here for the last 11 years. Consistently good authentic food and excellent service. It’s a family run business, with various members all doing their bit behind the open kitchen, but making sure to stop to thank you on entering and exiting.

Only downside is that they don’t deliver, but this could be due to a number of reasons, including quality control, but I find the walk to them always worth it at the end.

I would also argue the best Tod-man and yam neau in Amsterdam!

My friend and I were starving and really glad we found this place not too far from where we stayed. It was just opening time and they were quite busy. I took that as a good sign. We did have to wait a bit, as they had many orders for pick up. When our food finally came we were pleased. It was delicious. If I am back in the area, I will definitely stop by here again!

i’m soo happy there’s a yummy thai place in my hood! my litmus test for a good thai restaurant is their pad thai. i’m happy to say their pad thai is delicious. the sauce is wonderful and squeeze a lime all over that and it’s even better. i also got the basic thai salad with chicken. it wasn’t the typical green papaya salad but just a lettuce salad with veggies and chicken. the salad itself is nothing special, they use iceburg. BUT… the dressing on it is out of this world. i was almost going to ask if i could buy some of it. it turned an ordinary salad into something unforgettable. i like the coziness of this place. it’s not large but not to small with a wood interior and exterior. they have a full bar too! the kitchen is up front right when you walk in which is very smart. you’re immediately hit with the fragrance of thai food. i wouldn’t say this place is good for large groups but for 2-6 ppl tops.
the staff and chefs are all very friendly. when i’m in the mood for thai and i don’t want to venture to far from home this is the place. they also do a lot of to go orders. i made sure to get a to go menu for those nights you just want to oink out at home 🙂

Friendly staff, took us without a reservation at peak dinner hours on a Saturday night. Unfortunately the service is incredibly slow- you can see into the kitchen so you'll notice they have a ridiculous number of take out orders. That's all fine but that plus the lack of staff (one waiter for the entire restaurant from 6:30-8pm!) makes it way too slow. 5-10 mins for a menu, 20 mins to take our order another 30-40 mins for food to come out. Then the food was ok, not mind blowing at all. Under spiced. Saw food come out piping hot- our red curry did but the spring rolls were lukewarm. The latter was better than the former though. Friendly staff but I wouldn't come back.

Food is incredibly fresh and flavorful and basically cooked in front of you or at least in plain site. Its not far from the Okura where my company stays every year and I always “sneak” away for some of it.

This visit I had Spring Rolls, Pad Thai, and Chicken Fried Rice- I packed and left with approx 50% of what I was served boxed up, and it made for a great late nite meal at the hotel.

The Pad Thai was superb, crunchy veggies, fresh onion, and egg with the right amount of meat, the noodles had justest right amount of firmness. Fantastic.

Rice- Same, superb. Spring rolls, excellent.

The portions are generous, (and Im an American) and I’ve never left hungry.

If you are in Amsterdam its worth the walk, ride, or cab to try it.

Sfeer klein restaurant, heerlijk eten !

Een paar jaar geleden had ik hier ook al is gegeten en was is ziek geworden toen ik thuis kwam. Toen met mijn nieuwe partner ben ik weer is gaan eten op zijn aanraden maar was al niet zo vol meer van deze Thai aangezien de eerste keer eten daar me echt doodziek heeft gemaakt maar goed. Daar aan gekomen had ik een soep Tom Yang koeng besteld en een salade met kip gehakt met Thaise kruiden. De soep kreeg ik later dan mijn hoofdgerecht en proefde naar niets echt rioolwater zou nog beter smaken. En de kipgehakt salade was ook niet te eten en er zaten kruiden in met een vieze na smaak. Vriendelijk melden ik dat ik niet tegen de kruiden kon die ze er in hadden gedaan en toen zei de bedienster / kok ja daar kan ik niks aan doen dat is een traditionele Thaise salade. Ik had echt iets van pardon ik was zo woest. Echt een slechte service en klant onvriendelijk. Eet daar nooit meer! Ieder ander restaurant zou wat improviseren of je compenseren op de bon. Maar nee hoor gewoon de volle pond betalen van iets waar ik letterlijk maar 1 hap van had gegeten. Invervolg eet ik alleen maar bij Naan Naam in oud zuid waar ze goede service en heerlijk eten hebben.

Delicious food, with quick and friendly service. A wide and varied menu with plenty of vegetarian options. The decor and ambiance were wonderful as well. The kitchen is open so you can watch the cooks from your table if you would like. We will definitely be coming back.

Horrible. Portions are a joke for the expensive price you put and the food is no good. Worst part is, when you give feedback the chef gets angry and screams at you. Such a terrible place, should be shut down!

Stopped by Saturday at around 8:30pm and it was not very busy. The food was delicious. One of the better pad thais that I’ve had! We also ordered #162 (don’t remember the name, but it is beef with onions, mushrooms, and chilis) and I liked that too. We decided to make this our Go To Thai place.

Authentiek Thais eten, vers gekookt, vers en smakelijk, ik begrijp niet waarom niemand dit restaurant kent? Ik hoop dat meer mensen ervoor kunnen kiezen om de groene curry kiprijst, Thaise garnalen gebakken rijst, heel goed te proberen👍❤️

I’ve been coming here since I just moved to Amsterdam 2,5 years ago. Until today, Thai Deum is still my favourite Thai restaurant in Amsterdam: delicious food for very reasonable prices. Their green curry is unbeatable. I’ll keep on being a loyal customer. See you soon!

I order Laab Kai and Tom Yak Plaa for takeaway. The people in the restaurant were extremely friendly, typical Thai.The food was wonderful, the Laab Kai could have used a bit more fish sauce. I would give 4,5 stars if possible but as that’s not possible -> 5 stars.

The absolute _Best_Thai_ in Amsterdam!

I have been to many thai restaurants in amsterdam, and this is the one i keep coming back to.
The staff is very ! friendly, the atmosphere is excellent. The open kitchen is on the left when u enter the restaurant. The ladies in the kitchen work very hard, and the food they produce is just top notch.
You can reserve a table (dont forget, as it is very busy most of the times!) or order food to take home. No delivery unfortunately.
Please do go to this Thai restaurant if you love Thai food, their tom Kha Khai is yummmmie!!

Couldn’t have gotten better food even in Thailand, we had a 5 course meal, and everything was truly authentic.

Super lekker. But they don’t accept credit cards. The food was really good though for the price.

We went here during the week and it wasn't real busy, only about half the tables were occupied. We ordered appetizers, soup and a main, and the timing on the dishes was perfect. The soups I thought were spicier then the 1 star heating rating, while the mains were less spicy then the menu lead you to believe, but despite this all the food was delicious. The service was a bit frantic as the waitress also worked the kitchen, but still friendly and helpful. Would definitly go back.

Nice Thai place in De Pijp. Service and the cooks were great. The ladies constantly checked on the food's flavor while they cooked. They put a lot of effort into the two dishes we ordered, the pad Thai and the beef curry. The result? Pipin' hot and fresh but too salty. I just wanted to keep drinking something after the meal. The spicy rating should be adjusted by removing a star in the current system. Again, too salty.

Sinds mijn favoriete Thai in de Pijp (Siriphon, wat een gemis) permanent gesloten is heb ik het tot nu toe twee keer geprobeerd bij Thai Deum, maar die komen helaas niet in de buurt en valt echt tegen in vergelijk met vroeger. Waar zijn de Thaise smaken? En waarom is het allemaal zo flauw? Ik heb het gevoel dat er om economische redenen wordt gekozen voor goedkope ingrediënten, want anders kan ik het niet verklaren.

Ik ga het nog een of twee keer proberen want misschien was ik daar niet op het juiste moment, maar als het dan niet beter is, ga ik op zoek naar een andere Thai. Want voor mindere kwaliteit dan bij Siriphon doe ik het namelijk niet meer en zou jij ook niet moeten doen.

The food here ranges from very solid to unbelievably delicious. The Tom Ka Khai soup in particular is a bowl of absolute lusciousness and will make you fall in love with Thai food all over again. Chicken satay are a little more delicious than average. One of the house "speciality" dishes, wild boar with red curry, was very good, and chock full of veggies, although my hubs found the boar itself a little tough. On another visit we tried green curry chicken as a comparison, and it had far fewer veggies and, perhaps as a result, not as complex or deep a flavor as the red curry boar. Spicy beef salad was a bit different that I am accustomed to, being made with ground beef rather than sliced, but the flavor was good, if a tiny bit too spicy for me. Tell them your spice level, because they work hard to then customize to you. The kitchen is right up and front and you can see, hear and smell all the cooking – a wonderful appetizer! The ladies running the kitchen could not be sweeter or more impressive with their works, and the server is also very friendly and remembered us after our first visit. This is *just* the kind of place I wish I had in my neighborhood, and would come here every week or two if I did. Stop by and enjoy.
